What is BOTOX ( Botulinum Toxin A)?
BOTOX is brand name for botulinum toxin A. It is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles to soften moderate to severe frown, forehead lines and around the eyes (crow's feet).
How does BOTOX work?
It works by temporarily blocking nerve impulses to the injected muscles. This reduces muscle hyperactivity that causes moderate to severe skin lines (creases).
When will I see results from a BOTOX treatment?
Within days, you may see a noticeable improvement which continue to improve for up to 30 days.
How long does BOTOX last?
Visible results have been shown to last between 3 - 6 months. Your own results may vary - be sure to talk to your doctor about what you can expect and when to schedule your next appointment
Who should administer Botulinum Toxin A (Botox)?
As it is a prescription medicine You should consider choosing a qualified physician who is a member of a relevant organization/body.
Is the treatment painful?
Discomfort is usually minimal and brief. Prior to injection, your physician may choose to numb the area with anesthetic cream. The entire procedure takes approximately 20 minutes. Most patients are in and out of the physician's office without downtime following the treatment.
Occasional and short lived side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, tenderness, redness, and/or bleeding/bruising. They can be easily concealed.
Will I still be able to make facial expressions?
Although the results are visible, the treatment will not radically change your facial appearance or make you look as if you've "had work done".
Do treatment results differ?
Yes, individual results may vary. To get the best results, it's important to go to a doctor who is experienced with proven credentials.
